Dirty Hacking Bstards

Friday, July 21st, 2006

More hacking attempts on Desert of Zin and JediMoose.

This time it was a fault with our mutual hosts Webhosting which caused (seemingly) all of the index pages of their sites to be replaced.

Not very nice.

It’s easy enough to replace the Blosxom index script for Desert of Zin, but not so easy for the ‘Moose and her subdomains.

I’ve contacted the support at Webhosting and hopefully they should be able to restore it all.

A new story!

There’s a Desert of Zin historical tale in the making.

That is, it’s a historical tale from the point of view of the events of the novel.

It charts the beginnings of the Desert of Zin ship and how it’s destiny has been leading it to the novel.

I should have all of three (3!) parts of it finished by the end of the weekend.

My First Battlestar Tournament

Wednesday, July 5th, 2006

Battlestar Galactica is a new collectable card game by the good peeps at Wizkids Games and it’s one of the better CCGs I’ve played.

I’m no better at this one than any other I’ve played though… :)

So last night there was a Battlestar tournament. Because it’s a new game and this was the first tournament there was a small turnout for it (6 of us).

Three games were played and three were lost. Oh well. At least for the second and third games I didn’t get totally gubbed and it was a close run thing.

The next tournament isn’t for a couple of weeks which gives me plenty of time for practice. And I did get a limited edition card for participation. Which was nice. :)

Baen Free Library

Wednesday, July 5th, 2006

One of the better ideas I’ve ever heard.

Baen Books, publishers of many a fine science fiction and fantasy novel, have a free downloadable library which contains a reasonable sample of their work. It’s mostly space opera and the like, so it may not be everyone’s cup of tea.

They explain it much better than myself but the general idea is that you can download a book, or two, from their site (for free!) and enjoy it, or not, at your leisure. The resulting free publicity makes it worthwhile.

As I said, there’s a lot more to it than that and they put much better than I’m going to.

And if their library can help me look awake and interested at work then that’s even better. ;)

Bad men on the net

Who have (last night) hacked the crap out of my other website, JediMoose. mrBen, erstwhile chum and co-blogger on the site, was the first to discover the problem and is at this very moment attempting to sort out the problem.

Details are sketchy right now but it looks like someone has been faffing about with some of the php files on the Wordpress installations (amongst other things) on the main site and our subdomains.
