Fantastical Tales

Saturday, July 28th, 2007

While out and about looking for other things for Ruthy’s birthday tomorrow, I happened upon The Mark of the Beast, and Other Fantastical Tales by Rudyard Kipling for a stupidly cheap price. Of course, I snapped it up. :)

I’ve just idly flicked through it on the bus back and at first glance it has that same fantastic style like Clark Ashton Smith.

Looks like I’ve got my reading for the next few days sorted. ;)

Grey Knights for Dawn Of War!!!

Saturday, July 28th, 2007

I found an excellent mod for the Dawn Of War: Dark Crusade game. Daemonhunters!

Now I can have a full Grey Knight army! Whooo!!!

To explain my excitement, in the Warhammer 40K universe the Grey Knight space marines are the ones brought out to fight the insidious hordes of chaos and are among the hardest troops in the game. And now some good lads have brought out a mod for Dark Crusade that adds them to the game as a playable race.

The mod rocks, but it’s just for multiplayer/skirmishes so no rampaging about the game map with the Emperors finest.

The mod can be found here.

Death to free time

Or, hello to the 14-day EVE Online trial.

As I mentioned here, my experience with Star Wars: Galaxies was less than impressive but I had heard good things about EVE Online ages ago from Kai.

As that was about a year ago and I know I’m a slow learner so here we go to another time losing experience.

There’s every chance that I won’t take this any further than the 14-day trial, and I’m not abandoning Guild Wars which remains my Number One choice for online gaming, but if you have access to a trial key it would be pretty dumb not to use it.

I’m down loading the client as I type this, so in 500MBs time I’ll be back on sharing what I think of it.

Back on the wagon?

Yeah, recently afer a heavy period of being disillusioned with the ol’ writing I made the bold move of putting The Bandstand excerpt up on a Sci-Fi forum because they have a critique section.

It’s easier to show friends work you’ve done as, unless it’s dreadful, you’re guaranteed a favourable reception.  But to put work somewhere specifically for the purpose of having it analysed by people you DON’T know is a definite heart in the throat moment.

But the response was positive, giving me ideas for where to go next and mistakes to avoid.

So, I’m back in the saddle and feeling good.
